State-Owned Companies Awarded Contracts for Completing Unfinished Sports Projects

The Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation has awarded to three state-owned companies—Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC), Fenaka Corporation Limited and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)— to complete unfinished sports projects across the Maldives.
The agreements were signed on behalf of the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation by its Minister, Abdulla Rafiu. MTCC’s Managing Director Deputy Commissioner of Police Retired Ahmed Saudi signed on behalf of the company, while FENAKA was represented by its Managing Director Mohamed Najah. RDC’s Managing Director Brigadier General Retired Ali Zuhair signed on behalf of the corporation.
The projects handed over to Fenaka Corporation include the development of football grounds in Kamadhoo, Baa Atoll and Maaen’boodhoo, Dhaalu Atoll. The installation of lighting system in Kurendhooo Football Ground, as well as the procurement of drag brush machine required for turf installation in four islands were also handed over to the company.
The installation of lighting system in Kurendhoo Football Ground was contracted for USD 103,761.35 to be completed within 90 days. Additionally, the supply and installation of turf for Kamadhoo Football Ground was contracted for USD 304,798.96, to be completed within 60 days. The Maaen’boodhoo Football Ground development was contracted for USD 389,105.06 to be completed within 120 days. This includes turf installation, constructing the surrounding walls as well as fencing the area.
Additionally, the procurement of drag brush machine and benches for the football grounds in Kendhoo and Thulhaadhoo of Baa Atoll, and Meedhoo in Raa Atoll were also contracted to Fenaka for USD 103,761.35 to be completed within 60 days.
Meanwhile, RDC has been contracted to finish the indoor badminton courts in Kaashidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, Hangnaameedhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Maalhos, Baa Atoll and Thoddoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll.
According to the contract, the supply and installation of turf on Kaashidhoo Football Ground include the procurement of the drag brush machine needed for the work. This part of the contract has to be fulfilled within 45 days, with USD 5,603.11 has been allocated for the purpose.
Additionally, Hangnaameedhoo Football Ground development has been contracted for USD 376,134.89 to be completed within 90 days. This includes the supply and installation of turf, construction of surrounding walls as well as installation of fences.
The development of football grounds in Maalhos is also included among RDC’s obligations. This contract is valued at USD 771,725.03 and includes the supply and installation of turf, lighting system, construction of surrounding walls, installation of fences as well as the construction of a rostrum. A three-month period has been given to complete the work.
The development of an indoor badminton hall in Thoddooo has also been contacted to RDC to be completed within 190 days. It is expected that around USD 324,254.22 will be spent on the project.
The contracts handed over to MTCC include the construction of surrounding walls and fences as well as the procurement of brush machines for Dhiffushi, Kaafu Atoll, and Muraidhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll’s football grounds. It also includes the establishment of a fitness and recreation Centre in Bilehfahi, Shaviyani Atoll.
Other contracts include the construction of surrounding walls of the Dhiffushi Football Grounds and installation of fences to be completed within 50 days. The procurement of a drag brush machine is also included under the project. This contract is valued at USD 77.821.01.
Muraidhoo Football Ground’s surrounding walls construction, fencing and procurement of drag brush machine and benches have also been handed over to MTCC. This contract is valued at USD 97,276.26 to be completed within 60 days. According to the contract, the establishment of a fitness and recreation centre in Bilehfahi must be completed within six months, for a value of USD 298,313.88. The Dhiffushi and Muraidhoo football grounds works have to be completed within two months.
In alignment with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge, the government has been resuming halted sports projects across the Maldives since last year. While a large percentage of these projects have now reached completion, the timely and efficient completion of the projects is part of the President’s pledge. The government hopes to finish the pending work within the second quarter of the year.
