President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the HDh. Vaikaradhoo Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions to discuss the island’s key development priorities. The meeting took place this afternoon at Vaikaradhoo School.
During the meeting, the Council members highlighted several pressing issues concerning Vaikaradhoo. These included the need for the construction of housing units, the relocation of the island’s powerhouse, the upgrading of the electrical grid, and the modernisation of the island’s roads. The Council also requested the expedited completion of 12 classrooms for the island school, the resolution of waste management challenges, and the renovation of the community centre.
In addition, the Council appealed for the prompt provision of water, sewerage, and electricity to the newly allocated land plots and the tourism zone in Vaikaradhoo. They further requested the establishment of a branch of the National Centre for the Holy Quran on the island.
The President assured the Council that the Government would give due consideration to their concerns and work towards practical solutions. He also provided updates on ongoing development projects. The President was accompanied at the meeting by Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises.
