Kamadhoo wins Four Seasons “Baa atoll Youth Boduberu Challenge”
Baa atoll Kamadhoo Yamak boduberu group won the “Baa atoll Youth Boduberu Challenge,” organised by Four Seasons in partnership with boduberu group Varutha and Villa Television (VTV) last Saturday. The competition was held to celebrate the declaration of Baa atoll as one of UNESCO’s biosphere reserves. Yamak boduberu group won the competition with 876 points and were awarded Rf10,000, while Four Seasons also donated Rf100,000 to the island to carry out any desired community project. The competition which was aired live on VTV and held for two day was launched by the Youth Minister Hassan Latheef. During the launching Latheef said that the competition is a ‘golden opportunity’ to develop and promote traditional activities amongst the youth. The ministry donated musical equipment worth Rf30,000 to the group. Six islands from the atoll took part in the competition including Baa atoll Dhonfanu, Maalhos, Kihaadhoo, Eydhafushi and Dharavandhoo. Four Seasons revealed that the competition will be held on a bigger scale next year with entry open for Noonu, Raa and Lhaviyani atoll. Yamak boduberu group revealed that they will spending the Rf10,000 awarded to them on building a stage on the island and that the islanders and the group will discuss and come up with a community project on which to spend the Rf100,000 as well. Varutha boduberu group had trained youth from the islands in the atoll to prepare for the competition.
