FIFA extends Maldives FA mandate until December 31

FIFA has decided to extend the mandate of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM)’s Normalisation Committee until December 31, 2015. In a statement released Friday night, FIFA stated that their Emergency Committee made the decision, in consultation with the AFC, to enable FAM to complete the registration of its new charter with the authorities and conduct their elective congress, which had originally been scheduled for October 22 and was called off after the Home Ministry refused to register their charter over unresolved issues. FIFA also revealed in their statement their decision to replace the Normalisation Committee’s member Mr Mohamed Hussain with Mr Ahmed Shakyb, who will also assume position of deputy chairman. FAM and the Home Ministry are currently in discussion over future proceedings. The association’s General Secretary Bassam Adeel Jaleel told Haveeru on Wednesday that the Home Ministry has proposed including certain Clauses of the Associations Act in FAM’s new charter. However, that would be possible only after holding their congress, declared Bassam. “So, we requested them to conditionally approve the charter. That would enable us to hold the congress and add those clauses afterwards,” he said. He added that should the ministry approve the charter even now, FAM is prepared to hold the congress next week along with the charter amendments.
