Education minister, Dr Aishath Shiham has stated that students must sit more internationally recognised exams other than Cambridge and Edexcel.
Speaking at the ceremony held Wednesday to release the report compiled by the ministry's quality assurance department on the results of national assessment of learning outcomes, Minister said that the accomplishments of global academics is a measure of the progress made by the local education system.
Accomplishment of SAARC and Millennium development goals, along with nearly all of the academic goals set for 2020 are what demonstrates the success of the progress, she added.
"With these achievements, our results should be comparable with the world's and not simply the region's. We believe that the time has come for us to further enable students who complete grade 10 and 12 to sit internationally recognised examinations such as the PISA test." stated the Minister.
Education minister also revealed the prime targets of their sector being to educate the students as best they can, to make sure no student feels unaccepted and excluded and to provide teachers with the best training in order to boost their capabilities.
