PPM have said that, the President of the party, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom will decide who will represent the party in all-party talks.
A statement publicized by the “Maumoon Faction” of PPM says that the party by-laws does not state that it is the party council who will nominate party representatives in different functions or meetings.
The statement further said that, in the past it is the party president who nominates party representatives to different functions including functions held abroad, official ceremonies of the government and various seminars abroad and in the Maldives. The statement says the party does not believe that it is the council that should nominate representatives for functions held by the president’s office due to the absence of such a clause in party by-laws which exclusively says that the council should nominate representatives.
In addition, the statement says that the last two representatives who represented PPM in the party talks cannot represent PPM because they have been acting against the party ideologies and against the party by-laws.
The statement also said that the party is unable to conduct council meetings because during the meeting held on 19th July some council members walked out of the meeting after bringing up “imaginary excuses”. It said that the members said that there were two members in the council meeting who has been removed from the party. The statement said that the party did not receive any documents which says that these two members were in fact removed from the party.
Furthermore, it said that hence, the party leadership does not have the guarantee that these members will not repeat the same thing if another council meeting is held.
