Insurance of sea vehicles before 2017 made compulsory

It has been made compulsory to insure all sea vehicles travelling after January 2017.
Speaking at a press conference held today in Economic Ministry، State Minister of Economics، Captain Abul Latheef Mohamed said that the “Act on Safety of Maldivian Sea Vessels” has now been passed and that the Act will be gazetted in the coming month.
Ministry says that this Act asks the sea vehicles to be insured and that starting from the year 2017، sea vehicles ranging from small “bokkuraas” to large vehicles travelling on EEZ should all be insured.
Ministry informs that the safety certificate can be issued to sea vehicles starting from January 2017 only if they have “full insurance coverage”.
Although Ministry revealed that in the future، changes will be brought to the fining principles currently in effect، no further details on this were disclosed.
