The government revealed that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih may visit Qatar to watch a World Cup match live.
In a press conference at the President's Office, Spokesperson, Miuvaan Mohamed stated that the Qatar Prince had extended an invitation to President Solih to see a FIFA World Cup 2022 match live at the stadium. Miuvaan stated that President Solih will possibly visit Qatar to watch the final or one of the semi-final matches.
Miuvaan did not share further details.
While the group stage matches are under way at the quadrennial world tournament, semi-final and final matches are expected to take place mid-December.
TMJ learned through reliable sources that the President has begun preparations for his visit to Qatar and the trip is expected to cost the state roughly MVR 1 million.
President Solih has previously expressed his eagerness to travel and visit new places.
