President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have returned to Malé after concluding their one-day visit to R. Dhuvaafaru.
During the visit, completed projects were inaugurated and practical work commenced on several others. In this regard, the President launched the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) ATM service, the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus service, and the first fuel skid established in Dhuvaafaru to provide fuel at reduced prices for fishermen. As part of the Five Million Trees Programme, the President and First Lady also planted Maldivian coconut palms on the island. In addition, they attended the Fish Filleting Competition held on the occasion of National Fishermen’s Day.
As part of the official activities marking the day, the President met with fishermen this afternoon to hear their views and concerns. He assured the fishing community that the Government will work towards providing effective solutions to the issues raised. The President also attended the official function held this evening to commemorate the occasion.
The President was accompanied on the visit by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Cabinet Ministers, and senior officials from key Government institutions.
National Fishermen's Day is observed annually on 10 December.
