Maldives Police Service, on Friday, said 78 drug bullets were found inside the stomach of the man who was discovered dead inside a guesthouse on Sunday, November 30th.
The death was reported to the Police around 12:14pm on Sunday.
According to the Police, the deceased, identified as an expatriate, was found dead inside a room at a guesthouse located in Hulhumale’ Phase I.
In an update on Friday, the Police revealed that the deceased expatriate was a 40-year-old Nepali man who had arrived in the Maldives on November 16th with two other people.
According to the Police, the group first traveled to Maafushi. They checked into the guesthouse in Hulhumale’ on the morning of November 28th. The two who traveled with him fled Maldives on the same day.
The Police noted that that, while the deceased man showed no external injuries, a CT scan confirmed that he had ingested drugs.
Subsequently, the Police said they sought legal advice from the Prosecutor General’s Office, and, following their advice, had the drugs removed from the man’s body with the assistance of a doctor on Tuesday night.
However, the Police noted that the procedure was performed outside a healthcare facility because the body had decomposed to a degree that required it to be done in such a location.
The Police said a total of 78 drug bullets were removed from his body. Their weight came up to 818 grams.
The Police added that they had not disclosed information regarding the case prior to this, as it was an ongoing investigation with the authority still undertaking efforts to ascertain the facts surrounding the case, establish the identity of the suspects involved and identify additional people who may be involved.
