‘Maldives 2.0’ signals the beginning of the revolutionary digital transformation of the Maldives, Minster of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihsan has said.
The Minister made the remark while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Maldives 2.0 Summit, held at Barcelo Nasandhura in Male’.
Launched under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s initiative, ‘Maldives 2.0’ aims to connect government functions and services provided through a comprehensive digitalisation system.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Homeland Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihsan said the project reflects the priority given by President Muizzu to achieve the government's vision of a digital Maldives. The project will involve every branch and institutions of the Maldivian state, he he said.
The Minister said that with the launch of Maldives 2.0, the revolutionary digitisation of the country is officially underway. The project was developed under the special initiative of President Muizzu with the technical advise of global digital leaders, and ideas and consultations from the Maldives’ top IT experts, he added.
The Minister further stated that the implementation of Maldives 2.0 will be overseen by the President himself and a special council chaired by him.
"The practical phase of implementing the President's digitalisation policy will begin at a fast pace. All implementation will be overseen by the Digital Transformation Council of the Maldives, which includes leading experts in the field. I appreciate the hard work of the technical staff from the Homeland Security Ministry, National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) TradeNet to formulate and implement this policy,” he stated.
Speaking at the ceremony, Linnar Viik, member of the Digital Council of the Office of the President of Estonia and co-founder of the Estonian e-Governance Academy, stated that the Maldives and Estonia have a lot in common. She assured technical support to the Maldives to support the Maldives’ efforts toward digitalisation.
The two-day Maldives 2.0 Summit will discuss the digital transformation of the Maldives under Maldives 2.0 and determine what is agreed upon by all agencies. The country’s digital transformation agenda will also be formulated, according to the Homeland Security and Technology Ministry.
