The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has searched a large area to locate a 25-year-old who went missing following a fire incident on a cargo boat last Wednesday.
The missing individual has been identified as Ali Mushfiq, 25, from Maavah, Laamu Atoll. He was among 18 people on board the vessel when the fire broke out. Seventeen passengers were successfully rescued.
The MNDF Saturday said that an area covering 133 square nautical miles was covered in a surface search on Saturday, While 143,880 square meters have been searched so far by diving. An additional 5,000 square kilometers have been searched via air.
In addition to the Coast Guard, AirCorps, and divers, drones are also being used to search for Mushfiq.
