Foreign Secretary Fathmath Inaya has resigned from the post.
AVAS has learned that although Inaya has resigned from the post she remains at a secretary level post within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The exact reason for Inaya's resignation is unclear.
Inaya is the first and only woman to hold the post of Foreign Secretary in the Maldives history. Inaya was appointed Foreign Secretary on December 12, 2023 at the level of State Minister.
The main role of the Foreign Secretary is to develop and implement foreign policy and serves as a senior advisor within the ministry.
