President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced a comprehensive plan to undertake 35 mosque development projects nationwide within the year. This announcement was made during his presidential address at the opening session of parliament for 2025.
In 2024, the administration allocated USD 510,482.11 for the renovation and maintenance of mosques throughout the Maldives, President Dr Muizzu announced. He then highlighted the re-establishment of the National Council of Mosques, ensuring the council convenes regularly and conducts daily monitoring of mosque conditions.
"Our curriculum remains unchanged from last year. The most important foundations in determining the state and future of the Maldivian nation are the protection of the noble Islamic religion, Maldivian identity, and Maldivian independence and sovereignty," stated President Dr Muizzu.
Reaffirming his unwavering commitment to preserving the Maldives as a 100% Muslim nation, President Dr Muizzu underscored his dedication to fostering a society enriched with Islamic virtues, upholding Islamic Shariah, and maintaining strict adherence to Islamic principles.
Outlining a series of significant initiatives undertaken over the past year, the president highlighted the design and implementation of the 'Risaalath Programme,' a nationwide initiative conducted across various parts of the country last year and set to continue without interruption this year. He also underscored the ongoing 'Namaadhu Mathiveri Kurun' project, which aims to familiarise Maldivian society with the five obligatory prayers.
