Adam Shareef Umar, the Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, has characterised efforts to promote religious values as a cornerstone of national development. Speaking as the guest of honour at the results ceremony for the 6th Holy Quran Recitation Competition and the 2nd Adhan Competition, organised by the Himmafushi Island Council in Kaafu Atoll, Minister Shareef stressed the enduring importance of religion in uniting communities and shaping a resilient society.
Expounding on this theme, Minister Shareef described the cultivation of a religious spirit as not merely a spiritual pursuit but a profound investment in the nation's advancement. Today's children, he remarked, are tomorrow's youth and serve as the cornerstone of efforts to confront challenges and drive national progress, highlighting the importance of nurturing future generations.
The administration's efforts to expand Quranic memorisation programmes reflect a broader ambition to embed Islamic principles more deeply within the national fabric. Supporting and upholding the principles, values, and teachings of Islam is regarded by the administration as its proudest and most noble responsibility, Minister Shareef stated, aligning these initiatives with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's vision of fostering Quranic education and strengthening societal ties through shared religious values.
The ceremony brought together a range of notable figures, including State Minister Ahmed Salim, Cluster Executive and Deputy Minister Ahmed Haleem, and Dr Anara Naeem, Member of Parliament for Huraa. Members of the Himmafushi Island Council and a large number of local residents were also present to celebrate the occasion.
