Inquiry Commission obtains statements from all parties except MDP

Inquiry Commission has said that statements have been obtained from all political parties except Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The Commission was created by President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik to investigate the events from 14 January until the change of government.
Commission President Ismail Shafeeu said that members of political parties had attended the Commission to provide their statements. MDP was also requested to do the same, but they refused and expressed dissatisfaction with regard to the Commission.
“They have told media that they are not happy with the Commission; we got the same reply,” Shafeeu said.
He said that MDP has now been requested to discuss why they are not satisfied with the Commission.
Commission member Mohamed Fawaz Shareef said that MDP had not indicated that they do not intend to cooperate with the Commission. He believes that once MDP’s concerns are addressed, they will cooperate with the Commission’s efforts.
Commission member Yasir said that some individuals are not able to be present at the Commission to give their statement. They can now provide their statements via the Commission website.
“Any person who wishes to provide information to this Commission can upload it on our website. Documents, audio and video clips can be uploaded. And this can be done anonymously,” Yasir said.
