Nineteen women and girls went scuba diving for the first time in an event held to mark PADI Women’s Dive Day at Six Senses Laamu resort.
The group consisted of students, council members, teachers, and members of the Women’s Development Committee from across the atoll. The event was organised by the resort’s marine biology team Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) and dive center Deep Blue Divers (DBD).
The women were lead by resort guides on the introductory underwater course Discover SCUBA Diving. They also learnt about the sustainability initiatives at the resort.
Earlier in the day, the resort also hosted a dive for its women staff as part of the celebration.
PADI Women’s Dive Day is celebrated globally every year.
