MPL begins two-phase upgrade of 19-year-old RTG cranes at Male' Commercial Port

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has launched a major upgrade of the RTG cranes used for container operations at the Male' Commercial Port.
In a post on X, MPL announced that the modernization will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will focus on upgrading the cranes’ control and drive systems, while the second phase, scheduled to begin in July, will involve engine and power system enhancements.
The RTG cranes were first introduced in 2007 and have now been in service for 19 years. MPL said the upgrade is essential to ensure continued reliability and efficiency.
