Islamic Affairs Ministry expands religious awareness campaigns for Ramadan

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has broadened its annual programme of religious awareness initiatives for Ramadan, reinforcing its commitment to public education and spiritual engagement. Central to this effort are the 'Ihya' forums, which this year will extend well beyond Malé. First introduced to atolls in 2022 on a limited scale, the forums will now span ten islands, formally including Thinadhoo City. Combined with eight sessions scheduled in the capital, a total of 18 forums will be held nationwide. The regional series begins on 20 February, with the inaugural event convened in Dhiyamigili, Thaa Atoll.
The forums provide structured settings for religious lectures on a wide range of subjects, encouraging public participation through open question-and-answer sessions. Organisers distribute religious literature and promotional prizes, with nightly draws rewarding those who attend in person. Alongside these evening gatherings, daily lectures are delivered in local mosques immediately following the afternoon Asr prayers, ensuring outreach at the community level.
The ministry’s efforts also extend into the digital sphere. Recognising the central role of social media, officials are producing specialised video content to address public inquiries and clarify complex religious matters. The Islamic Studio has developed a diverse slate of programming, including narrative and reflective series, as well as a dedicated initiative tailored for children with special needs.
Beyond public forums, the ministry continues to highlight Quranic engagement. Since 2016, it has hosted the annual Inter-Office Quran Competition, designed to cultivate institutional appreciation for the scripture and encourage administrative employees to participate in recitation within a competitive environment. This year’s competition, beginning on 22 February, will feature 71 participants representing 21 institutional bodies. The recitations will take place in the main hall of the Salman Mosque, with logistical organisation overseen by the National Centre for the Holy Quran.
Through this extensive array of initiatives, the Islamic Affairs Ministry seeks to inspire the public to embrace the virtues of Ramadan, fostering knowledge, reflection and community engagement to ensure a spiritually fulfilling month.
