Private room facilities to be developed at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital

An agreement has been signed to construct 14 private rooms, which can be converted to quarantine facilities at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of State for Health, Khadeeja Abdul Samad Abdullah, and Altec Maldives Private Limited’s General Manager, Hussain Thasmeen.
With over 700 staff members, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital serves the greatest number of patients in the country outside of hospitals in the Greater Male’ region. For instance, residents from Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani Atolls seek treatment from this hospital.
Services available at this location are being expanded by bringing in more specialists and super specialists, a step forward for the Maldives’ healthcare sector.
The Ministry of Health has stated that the following facilities will be developed in this new building: a dialysis room, emergency room, medical store, general store, nurse station, administration room, briefing room, prayer room and break room for hospital staff.
Minister of Health, Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim has assured that accessible infrastructure for people with special needs will be established under this initiative. He stated that that these rooms will be equipped with modern amenities and contain essential facilities such as bathrooms.
The government has earmarked USD 3,430,995.81 for this project, with the initiative funded by Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
This project aims to provide ease to patients, and remains part of the government’s efforts to bring Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to a tertiary level, the Ministry of Health has stated.
