Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef met the members of South Thiladhummathi Atoll Council today, at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, councillors discussed the developmental needs of specific islands as well as the atoll. They highlighted the need for the development of local tourism with a focus on convenience for residents and the need for the urgent development of housing units in the atoll. Additionally, they expressed concern about the inconveniences caused by the limited number of flights operated to Kulhudhuffushi Airport, and the difficulties faced across the atoll due to the lack of a proper waste management system. The council requested for swifter progress in efforts to relocate the population of Hirimaradhoo and expressed interest in Faridhoo being designated as an island to generate economic benefits from. While appealing for the speedy completion of ongoing projects across the atoll the Atoll Council affirmed full cooperation with the Government.
Acknowledging their concerns, the Vice President assured the Council that after discussions with relevant authorities, efforts would be made to provide timely solutions.
