China offers MVR 250 million aid to Maldives

According to the President’s Office, two major agreements are to be signed. One of the agreements state that China would lend MVR 250 Million as free aid to the Maldives. Details of these agreements are yet to be revealed. President Abdullah Yameen, who is currently in China to attend the opening ceremony of the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics held discussions with Chinese President, Xi Jinping on Saturday. During the discussion, Xi noted that Maldives was one of the most important countries to China from all South Asian countries. He said that it was a great opportunity to take the age old friendship between China and Maldives to new heights. Xi revealed that Chinese investors were interested in the development of the tourism industry in the Maldives. “During the trip, the president will give a high priority to bringing the dreams of the youth into reality. Also, the first and most important project to be initiated would be the construction of the bridge between Male and Hulhule,” the President’s Office said. Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon, Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb, Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed, State Minister Ahmed Ashmaly along with Mohamed Shareef, the minister of the President’s Office are among those who participated in the discussions.
