“The government will not allow a person to escape from criminal offenses that has been committed. We believe the PG (Prosecutor General) can file cases against former President Nasheed for the offenses he committed while he was President. If that doesn’t happen the criminal justice system will be broken. The people need to see the laws implemented,” he said. Abbas alleged that MDP views the government dropping all charges against Nasheed as the solution to the ongoing political strife. “If MDP is Nasheed then there’s no solution to the problem. If MDP is more than Nasheed the government is willing to cooperate,” he said. He also said that though MDP demands early elections it can only be done as allowed within the constitution and that MDP’s cooperation is needed for that to happen.
