Shameel Elected Vice President of Bar Council; Nahid and Shafiu Win Executive Seats

Ibrahim Shameel has been elected vice president of the Executive Committee of the Bar Council of the Maldives, following a two-round online election held to fill vacancies ahead of the expiration of terms in July 2025.
The first phase of the vote took place on 26 June. The final round, conducted on Thursday through the 'Fahi Vote' digital platform, concluded the selection process, with 1,086 registered legal professionals eligible to cast ballots.
In that decisive round, five candidates competed for three open seats. Shameel secured the vice-presidential post with 291 votes. Abdulla Nahid led the field with 294, while Ahmed Shafiu was elected with 284.
The Bar Council, the statutory authority overseeing the legal profession in the Maldives, is mandated to issue licences, uphold the rights of practising lawyers, and maintain legal standards across the country.
