Imran resigns and now reinstated as Home Minister

Home Minister Imran Abdulla resigned on Sunday and reinstated in to the same position.
Sheikh Imran resigned because he was found guilty of terrorism over a speech given at the May Day rally in 2015 and he was serving a 12 year prison sentence when he was appointed as the Home Minister on November 17. The Supreme Court, however, annulled his prison sentence that allowed Imran to serve as the Home Minister on legal terms.
According to clause 63 of the Prisons and Parole Act, no persons currently facing imprisonment shall have the right to undertake any role of responsibility or partake in any activity, other than that of party membership, for the duration of their sentence.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Hoodh, told Mihaaru Imran resigned as he pleased.
“Since some people have raised questions regarding his appointment, Imran resigned to avoid such issues,” said Hoodh. “He has been reinstated as the Home Minister after his quick resignation though.”
