MP Abdullah Shahid have said that the anti-defamation act should be repealed and that international best practices should be followed.
Shaahid said that the anti-defamation law should follow international best practices and that the law should be revoked to free the media. Shaahid said that he wants all the members of the parliament to vote to repeal the act and the media will get protection.
It was a campaign pledge of President-elect Solih, to repeal the anti-defamation law. He said that media is an important component of democracy.
Countries where freedom of press is limited are usually authoritarian countries.
