Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has stated China remains an important development partner of the Maldives. The foreign minister made the statement in the virtual reception held at the Maldivian Embassy in Beijing, China to mark the 55th anniversary of independence in the Maldives.
Speaking at the virtual reception, Foreign Minister Shahid said the Maldives-China relationship is anchored on strong economic ties and strong bonds of friendship between the people of the two countries. In this regard, the minister noted China remains the top source market for Maldivian tourism. He added China has been and will continue to be an important development partner of the Maldives.
Highlighting it is the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China, the foreign minister said both governments and leaders have committed to further strengthen the ties and ensure that the Maldives-China relationship grows stronger and reaches new heights in the years to come. He thanked the government and people of China for their friendship and partnership with the Maldives and its people.
The virtual reception was also attended by Maldivian Ambassador to China Aishath Azeema, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and representatives from some travel companies and other businesses in China.
