Not acceptable that talent is being taken: Dr. Ali Shameem

Civil Service Commission President Dr. Ali Shameem has said that it was unacceptable that local talented students were snatched up by developed nations.
He made the statement in his address at the 7th Global Congress and Conferment ceremony of Singapore’s Royal Institute.
Dr. Shameem said that when developed nations take away talented youth, they do not compensate for the huge amount spent on education from the basic level to higher education.
He said the issue was especially concerning for the country as we are currently facing a knowledge gap, which hampers national development.
Dr. Shameem also noted that in the Maldives, there are no differences between foreigners and locals for education. However, he said this difference was prominent in other nations. He further noted that foreigners were not overcharged for medical treatment as well.
Dr. Shameem reflected on the successes the country’s civil service sector enjoyed and briefed on the various projects run, especially on human resource development.
He said office automation and technology had eliminated much of routine operations such as messengers, telephone operators and receptionists.
Dr. Shameem was conferred the Research Fellow of Royal Institute of Research” status.
