Chinese Ambassador Wang Fukang has said that both the Chinese and Maldivian Governments share the same hope that the people in Maldives can enjoy better lives with affordable and comfortable living.
He made this remark speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of housing project of the Maldives-Phase II under Chinese soft loan.
The Chinese Ambassador said that housing is key to modern development of any country and it is particularly true for Maldives.
“With more than 133, 000 people and nearly 40% of the country’s population living in Male, more housing is not only mandatory but also becoming a more and more pressing issue,” he said.
The Ambassador said that the Chinese government applauds and supports the initiative of the Government of Maldives in developing more housing units to help ease the congestion in Male and to provide better living condition for its people.
“We are very glad that Housing Project Phase 1 with 1000 housing units has already been completed and handed over to the Maldivian Government and thousands of Maldivians are already living in this building block called by many as “China Town”,” he said.
In addition to this, the Chinese Ambassador spoke about the water crisis faced by the people living in the capital Male’ City.
He said that the “Chinese Government and people share the concern of the Maldivian Government and people in facing with such a crisis, as the Chinese government believe the challenges for the Maldives are the challenges for China too.”
