The house arrest of former President Mohamed Nasheed has been extended by two months.
The Government stated that his house arrest was extended on the advice of Nasheed’s doctors.
Criminal Court had issued a 13 year jail term on charges of terrorism for the arbitrary arrest and detention of Criminal Court justice Abdullah Mohamed in 2012 for 22 days.
Nasheed was transferred to house arrest Sunday. At the time the Government stated that he was transferred for a period of three days on doctor’s orders that he be placed in a “stress free” place.
President Abdullah Yameen has stated that Nasheed’s sentence can be reduced on completion of the appeal process. However, Nasheed stated that he wished to seek out a political solution for the problem and had refused to file for appeal.
