A Bangladeshi national has been taken into police custody following the stabbing of a Nepalese woman in Hulhumale’ on Saturday.
The incident, reported to authorities at 12:45 PM, involved a 21-year-old Nepalese woman who sustained a stab wound to the neck while working at the OCC store in Hulhumale’ Phase I. She is currently receiving medical treatment at Hulhumale’ Hospital and is reported to be in good condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as 25-year-old Jahangir Mia, a Bangladeshi citizen, was apprehended by police this evening in Hulhumale’ Phase II. Police stated that investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
The Maldives Police Service is actively investigating the case to determine the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
This incident follows a recent spate of violent occurrences in Male’ city. Two weeks prior, a young man was stabbed in Majeedhee Magu, and late last month, another individual was attacked and injured in Sosun Magu.
