Over 5,000 applications received under ‘Housing for All’

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that 5,067 applications have been received to date under the government’s ‘Housing for All’ initiative.
Applications for housing units and land plots opened on 18 January and are being submitted through the dedicated Hiyaavehi portal. According to the Ministry, 3,434 applications were filed for flats, while 1,633 applications were submitted for land plots. An additional 11,304 individuals remain in the draft stage of the application process.
Under the initiative, the government plans to allocate 7,900 housing units and 15,000 land plots of 1,250 square feet each.
Land plots for Category One comprising Malé residents and special categories will be allocated in the Greater Malé region and Rasmale’. Non-residents living in Malé will receive plots from Rasmale’. A separate special category has also been established for residents of Malé and other atolls.
Flats under the scheme will be distributed in Malé and Villimalé. Of the total allocation, 4,000 flats are designated for Malé City residents, 2,400 for special priority categories, and 1,500 for residents of other islands currently living in Malé.
During his Presidential Address, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced amendments to broaden eligibility. A new category will allow individuals whose spouses own private homes to apply. Additionally, 2,000 land plots have been allocated for applicants who previously received land jointly under the Binveriyaa Housing Scheme and wish to forfeit shared ownership.
The Housing for All initiative is aimed at addressing the nation’s long-term housing shortage. The deadline for land applications is 4 March, while applications for flats close on 17 April.
