The government has allocated 27,000 square feet of land in Hulhumale to build a memorial mosque dedicated to the late Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed Ahmed. The initiative, led by Khidhumaiy Association, aims to honor the influential religious scholar who passed away in Malaysia while traveling to deliver a lecture.
According to Khidhumaiy Association, a meeting held yesterday with the Islamic Ministry resulted in assurances of full support for the mosque’s construction. The ministry further confirmed that the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) would provide dollars at the bank rate to facilitate the purchase of necessary construction materials.
Khidhumaiy Association revealed they are currently working on the mosque’s concept design and have secured the services of an experienced individual who volunteered to draw up the plans free of charge. They also noted that work to finalize and sign agreements related to the project will begin soon.
Sheikh Fareed, widely respected for his contributions to religious education and public discourse in the Maldives, passed away unexpectedly at an airport in Malaysia.
