President Muizzu to Honour the People of Utheemu for Preserving National Heritage

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Presidential Honour for Distinguished Service to the Nation of Maldives will be conferred upon the people of Utheemu, located in North Thiladhunmathi Atoll, in recognition of their remarkable dedication to preserving the country’s national heritage.
The accolade acknowledges the centuries-long commitment of Utheemu’s residents in safeguarding Utheemu Ganduvaru, a historically significant site linked to the Maldives’ rich cultural legacy. The people of Utheemu have preserved and maintained the site for nearly five centuries, ensuring its continued prominence in national history.
The award will be formally presented during the National Day celebrations in Utheemu tomorrow morning, with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
In addition, during the same ceremony, the President will also confer the National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition. This year, three individuals, including one posthumously, will receive the National Award of Honour. Meanwhile, nine individuals and organisations will be recognised with the National Award of Recognition for their exemplary contributions to the nation’s development.
