Our aim is to get financial aid from China to build bridge – President

The main aim of the official trip to China is to get financial aid from China to build the bridge between Male’ and Hulhule’، said President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. 
Speaking with the press at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport before leaving to China on Thursday night، President Yameen said that the reason it is delayed in handing over the Bridge project to the capable company among the three company on bids، as the government need to work to get possible financial aid from China.
“What we look forward before deciding on the tenders in the commercial terms is، a possible financial aid from the Chinese government. So، we didn’t want to fully decide on the bridge project before anything happens during the official talks(with China).” said President Yameen.
President said that the bridge project will cost USD 300 million، but China’s aid will depend on a feasibility study.
Dongfang Electric International Corporation and Seamec tendered when the detailed proposal opened for the bridge to be built between Male’ and Hulhule’. Dongfang is one among ten most successful construction companies in China.
Beijing’s Urban Construction Group tendered with a financial guarantor. They are the official contractor of Beijing Olympic Bird’s Nest.
The environment friendly bridge between Male’ and Hulhule’ will have system to convert solar energy to produce 4-g Megawatt electricity and a system to convert kinetic energy from waves and currents in the ocean.
The construction will start before the current year finishes، and the bridge will be finished within two years.
Government informs that within 15 minutes 6500 people will be able to cross the bridge، which is to be built between Male’ and Hulhule’.
