There should be no reason why generators cannot be taken to Addu to produce the electricity it needs: Azaan

Member of Hithadhoo central constituency Ahmed Azaan has expressed concern over the ongoing electricity shortages in Addu City, questioning why generators cannot be brought in to ensure a stable power supply.
Despite repeated assurances from Fenaka Corporation that efforts are underway to resolve the long-standing issue, frequent power outages continue to disrupt daily life in Addu. The situation has worsened in recent weeks, with electricity being cut off multiple times a day, prompting MPs representing Addu to meet with Fenaka officials to discuss the matter.
Fenaka had previously committed to repairing and completing generator installations before Ramadan to address the issue. However, due to increasing demand, the Fenaka Hithadhoo Branch announced today that power would be interrupted in certain areas to manage the load. As part of this measure, electricity was cut off from Substation 16 (BML area) at 14:30 and Substation 17 (Campus area) at 14:50.
Reacting to the situation, MP Azaan raised concerns over the lack of progress, stating that there should be no valid reason preventing the provision of adequate generators to meet Addu’s electricity needs.
Three generators supplying power to Addu have suffered severe damage. A 1.8 MW genset was installed last month to support the main powerhouse, while Fenaka had previously announced that a second generator would be operational by the end of February and a third would be repaired upon the arrival of necessary spare parts from abroad.
MP Azaan had earlier called for senior Fenaka officials to be summoned before Parliament’s State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee regarding the electricity crisis in Addu. However, the committee has not yet taken action.
With electricity consumption rising during Ramadan and various development projects increasing demand, Fenaka has stated that it is prioritizing efforts to stabilize the power supply in Addu City.
