53‑year‑old Maldivian man remains admitted after fishing boat fire near Male'

A 53‑year‑old Maldivian man is receiving treatment at IGMH following a fire that broke out on a fishing boat near Male' on Saturday.
Police confirmed that five people were injured in the incident, which occurred close to 15:00. However, hospital officials said only one of the injured, a 53‑year‑old local man, remains admitted. He is being treated in a ward, and no further details were disclosed.
The fishing boat Fresh from the Sea, carrying 15 people, caught fire and later sank. The injured were transported to Male' on a vessel belonging to Kurumba Maldives resort.
A source familiar with the incident told Sun that one of the injured sustained severe burns.
The fire is believed to have started in the engine area before spreading rapidly and burning down most of the vessel. Videos circulating on social media showed the stern engulfed in flames.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
MNDF has advised vessels travelling in the area to exercise caution, as parts of the burnt boat were seen drifting after it sank.
