Design phase launched for 3,960 housing units nationwide

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun design work for 3,960 housing units to be developed across multiple islands, following the Government’s decision to assign the corporation to lead the nationwide housing initiative.
HDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair stated that undertaking housing projects across the country marks a significant opportunity for the corporation. He noted that HDC is working closely with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, as well as local councils, to advance the projects and ensure alignment with community needs.
According to HDC, the developments will be implemented through contractor financing for large-scale projects ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 units, while smaller projects of 50 to 100 units will follow a separate financing model tailored to their scale.
The corporation emphasized that the nationwide initiative aims to ease housing constraints and deliver long-term, sustainable solutions for communities across the Maldives.
