PM Modi meets Maldives’ political leaders, including MDP officials

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Maldivian political leaders, including from the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), on Saturday, on day two of his two-day state visit to the Maldives.
The meeting with MDP officials, which was held separately, was attended by the party’s president Abdulla Shahid and chairperson Fayyaz Ismail.

Meanwhile, the second meeting was attended by leaders of political parties including Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) president Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, Jumhoory Party (JP) president Qasim Ibrahim, and Maldives National Party (MNP) president Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim.
In a post on X following the meeting, PM Modi described the meetings as “meaningful” ones that underscore India’s bipartisan support for Maldives-India ties.

PM Modi also had a separate meeting with former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed earlier on Saturday.

In a post on X following the meeting, PM Modi expressed appreciation for Nasheed for his strong advocacy for deeper Maldives-India friendship.
He said that they discussed how Maldives will always be a valuable pillar of India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and ‘MAHASAGAR’ vision.
“India will keep supporting Maldives through capacity building and developmental cooperation,” he added.

PM Modi is set to conclude his visit and depart for New Delhi on Saturday evening.
