Speaking during a ceremony held to mark the second anniversary of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) Minister pointed out that the Maldives was currently facing a dire economic situation. "This is not the best times for us economically. We must find more ways to increase revenue. Including this year and the years to come," he added. Jihad further noted that MIRA's work would also increase if a new tax is introduced. He claimed that MIRA had achieved much more than any other tax collection agency in the world, and highlighted that MIRA had functioned to the best of its ability in collecting taxes so far. Minister stressed that the employees of MIRA must set examples for others and said that their duties must be shaped in a way that it does not get stained with the colors of politics. Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed speaking during the ceremony said that much effort have been put into minimizing the expenditure of MIRA. On that note, he said that no work of the authority has been outsourced and is being carried out by its own employees. Yazeed further noted that MIRA had earned the government more revenue than the estimated amount within the last two years. The ceremony was attended by Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Governor Dr Fazeel Najeeb and heads of some non governmental organizations.
