ACC probes case alleging MVK placed government plot as collateral

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said they are investigating a case where local company MVK Pvt Ltd placed a plot of land owned by the government as collateral for a loan obtained from the Bank of Ceylon.
President of ACC Hassan Luthfee refused to provide details after stating that the case is under investigation. Sun is aware the land in question is M. Maafannu Aage in Male’, a private property of which 12,000 square feet was acquired by the State during president Maumoon’s administration. Fathimath Fareed, the proprietor of M. Maafannu Aage and also the wife of MVK Chairman Ibrahim Shafeeq, had filed a case in Civil Court during president Nasheed’s administration seeking to win back the confiscated portion of the property. However, Civil Court had ruled against her case.
