The extensive, nationwide public consultation phase for the "Resilient Maldives 2045" National Development Plan (NDP) has officially concluded, marking a significant milestone in the preparation of the nation’s 20-year strategic roadmap.
The ambitious initiative successfully spanned 189 inhabited islands, ensuring that the core framework of the long-term national plan is built upon broad community feedback and inclusive participation.
The consultative meetings, managed by Nexia Maldives—the firm contracted to gather public opinion and conduct the survey—began robustly on 6 September and wrapped up on Saturday.
The final public forums were held concurrently in Hulhumale', Hinmafushi, and Huraa in Kaafu Atoll. According to figures released by Nexia Maldives, the outreach saw impressive engagement nationwide, with 9,048 individuals participating in the various sessions held across the archipelago since the launch.
While the island-level public consultations have been concluded, specialised input gathering continues through focused roundtable sessions. These sessions, presently taking place at the Umar Zahir Office Building in Hulhumale’, gather experts and representatives from various sectors to deliberate on 60 critical topics identified as essential for the NDP.
Nexia reported that 19 such roundtable meetings have already been conducted. The government has emphasised that the comprehensive consultation process is integral to formulating the 20-year plan, ensuring it reflects the priorities and aspirations of all segments of Maldivian society.
Citizens who missed the in-person meetings still have the opportunity to submit their ideas and suggestions for the "Resilient Maldives 2045" plan digitally via Nexia’s online portal.
