President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the Administration will secure the most appropriate solution to address public concerns regarding the down payment for the 4,000 housing units developed by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) under the Gedhoruveriya scheme.
The President made this commitment during a consultative meeting held on Tuesday evening at Imaduddin School with residents of the Galolhu district in Malé City.
As housing-related matters comprised the majority of issues raised, the President emphasised that the views of every citizen are important and will be given due consideration. Responding to specific concerns regarding the down payment and subsequent monthly rent for the units, he stated that consultations would be held with the relevant authorities to arrive at a favourable resolution.
The President also addressed complaints regarding delays in the demarcation of land plots in Gulhi Falhu, despite registries having already been issued. He assured residents that the demarcation process would be expedited and that the land would be handed over to the rightful owners without further delay.
Describing housing as the most pressing issue facing the nation, particularly for residents of the Greater Malé Region, the President reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his presidential pledges. He noted that groups previously overlooked in housing initiatives would now be accommodated. Observing that past projects lacked provisions for individuals without inherited property from preceding generations, he stated that his Administration’s inaugural housing project includes a dedicated category to ensure housing security for such citizens.
Acknowledging that Galolhu hosts a significant number of flats allocated under various housing schemes, the President listened to the concerns raised by residents living in these units and assured them that the Government stands ready to provide all necessary assistance. In response to complaints regarding bills issued for rental payments that had previously been waived, he stated that such billing should not occur.
The President concluded by expressing his intention to continue holding similar engagements with the public.
