PNC Parliamentary Group convenes ahead of new session, Abdul Raheem absent

Ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group convened today in preparation for the first parliamentary session of the year.
The meeting was chaired by Inguraidhoo MP and PNC Majority Leader Ibrahim Falah. He was joined by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim, Deputy PG Leader and Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid, and Senior Deputy PG Leader and Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau.
The meeting took place amid growing speculation about tensions between the PNC leadership and the party’s Chairman and Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
However, Falah told Mihaaru News that Abdul Raheem’s absence was not due to any political issues within the party.

He said that Abdul Raheem has not attended PG group meetings since being elected Speaker of Parliament, as the group primarily works on political matters. Falah also said that security and other factors make it difficult for Abdul Raheem to attend emergency meetings.
Falah, who typically presides over the PG meetings as Majority Leader, stated that today’s discussion focused on organizing the work for the upcoming parliamentary session.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to deliver the Presidential Address at the opening session tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Despite rumors of political tension between President Muizzu and Abdul Raheem, it is expected that Abdul Raheem will chair the session.
Speculation about their allegedly strained relations intensified after Abdul Raheem’s son, Ibrahim Faisal, was removed from his position as Tourism Minister.
