Parliament Committee Approves Process to Dismiss Broadcom Deputy Chair Over Harassment Allegations

The Independent Institutions Committee of the Parliament has approved initiating the process to dismiss Mohamed Fazeen, the Deputy Chairman of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom), following allegations of sexual harassment against a female employee.
The committee has been investigating the case against Fazeen since January, with a meeting held tonight to discuss the matter. Although the eight-minute session did not publicly disclose the case details, multiple committee members confirmed to TMJ that it involved the allegations against Fazeen.
The motion to proceed with the dismissal process was proposed by Committee Deputy Chair and Kelaa MP Abdulla Shareef and seconded by Henveiru West MP Ali Ibrahim, both members of the ruling PNC. The proposal was passed unanimously under the leadership of Committee Chair and Hura MP Hussein Riza Adam.
Following the approval, Fazeen will be given an additional opportunity to respond to the allegations. However, under parliamentary regulations, the dismissal process can only proceed after being presented on the parliament floor and sent back to the committee for further review.
The Broadcom Deputy Chair now faces potential removal, marking a significant step in addressing workplace harassment.
