The Ministry of Tourism has decided to reopen investment opportunities for the development of two resorts in the lagoon of Haa Alif Kelaa, introducing additional incentives to attract developers. This comes after a previous announcement three months ago, which invited bids to lease two plots of 156.2 hectares and 169.3 hectares in Kelaa lagoon.
This initiative is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s key pledges and is recognized as a major step toward stimulating economic development in Kelaa and the surrounding region. To encourage investment, the government will now offer special development concessions for 24 months to resorts in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Thaa, Laamu, and Addu atolls.
As part of its broader tourism diversification strategy, the government also plans to introduce halal tourism in the Maldives. The Ministry of Tourism is working to streamline investment procedures and make it easier for local and international investors to engage in this sector. These efforts reflect a national commitment to promote sustainable and regionally inclusive tourism growth.
