Ministry of Economics Development and Transport Authority have come to a decision to mandate the insuring and warranting seaworthiness for all the marine vessels in Maldives.
Speaking to the press at Velaanaage today، Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that following the scores of marine incidents during Eid holidays، the Transport Authority has decided to mandate changes to minimize such incidents.
He said the authority will issue a notice soon، decreeing the insuring and warranting seaworthiness of marine vessels in the Maldives. He said a period will be given to vessel owners to insure and warrant seaworthiness to their vessels.
In addition، Minister Saeed said that this is mandated for every vessel owners in the Maldives، however، he will not suggest a certain insurance policy.
