Health Services Expansion Planned for 2026: Minister Nazim

Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has revealed that 2026 will be a pivotal year for health sector reforms, with the government set to roll out multiple projects aimed at expanding and upgrading services across the atolls.
In an interview commemorating the 63rd anniversary of Voice of Maldives, Minister Nazim announced that a significant portion of the upcoming State budget has been allocated to health initiatives, prioritising enhancements beyond the capital. Key plans include upgrading atoll hospitals and health centres on densely populated islands to boost local treatment capacity and reduce the need for travel to Malé.
A major focus for 2026 will be increasing the deployment of doctors and specialists to the atolls, supported by necessary infrastructure developments. The scheduled projects encompass recruiting additional medical personnel, introducing new services, and strengthening existing systems, in fulfilment of manifesto pledges and budgetary commitments.
Minister Nazim emphasised that the administration's health policy is driven by the goal of delivering measurable improvements to daily lives through a healthier society. He expressed confidence that targeted investments will elevate the sector, ensuring broader access to quality care nationwide.
The Minister also acknowledged the longstanding role of Voice of Maldives in promoting public health, noting its contributions through awareness programmes, coverage of disease outbreaks, and dissemination of precautionary guidance. He praised the broadcaster for providing timely and accurate information on local and global health developments, helping to inform and educate the public.
