Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) predicts scattered rainfall in the Male’ area on Wednesday night as major activities are scheduled in Hulhumale’ to welcome the new year.
An official from Met told Sun on Wednesday that Male’ area will experience scattered rainfall today, with weather predicted to return to normal by the weekend.
The official added that heavy rainfall has been forecast for southern atolls starting from Laamu Atoll.
“There is scattered rain in central atolls, including Male’, however no heavy showers,” the official said.
Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) is holding a three‑day food and culture festival in Hulhumale’ to welcome the new year, featuring the country’s first‑ever “pyro‑drone” show.
On Tuesday, VMC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree said unlike last year, when the festival was held for a single day, this year’s celebrations will run from Tuesday to Thursday, starting at 16:00 each day.
Shiuree said the festival aims to celebrate achievements across different fields and will include a variety of family‑friendly activities.
As with last year, a drone show will take place on Wednesday night at 21:00. However, Shiuree said this year’s display will be “more colorful and completely new,” marking the first time a pyro‑drone show, drones synchronized with fireworks‑style visual effects, will be staged in the Maldives.
A traditional fireworks display will follow at midnight on Wednesday. Shiuree encouraged the public to attend in large numbers.
