President and First Lady returns to Malé after Fishermen’s Day visit to Dhuvaafaru

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have returned to the capital following a one-day official visit to Dhuvaafaru in Raa Atoll, where they took part in national Fishermen’s Day commemorations observed annually on 10 December.
Accompanied by cabinet ministers and senior government officials, the President visited the island to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to the fishing industry, which remains a cornerstone of the Maldivian economy.
During the visit, President Muizzu inaugurated several development projects aimed at enhancing local services and supporting fishermen. These included the installation of a Maldives Islamic Bank ATM, the launch of Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus services, and the introduction of a dedicated fuel skid to provide affordable fuel for the fisheries sector.
The programme also highlighted environmental priorities, with the President and First Lady planting coconut palm saplings under the national Five Million Trees Planting Programme. They later attended a fish butchery competition held as part of the Fishermen’s Day celebrations.
Engagement with the fishing community formed a key component of the visit, as President Muizzu met with fishermen to hear their concerns and reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing challenges facing the sector. The visit concluded with his participation in the official Fishermen’s Day ceremony, bringing together development initiatives, environmental stewardship and community engagement.
